Chin hair is embarrassing for every woman, no matter what age they are.

They can be there right when you hit puberty or they can start coming once you hit your 30s. Some women have it during and after the menopause period.

Whatever age you are, every woman wants to remove chin hair permanently. As plucking, waxing, threading, and using hair removal creams are temporary solutions.

In this article, we will find out more options to get rid of chin hair forever and how to stop them from coming!

I hope this article helps you in getting the healthy and beautiful skin that you want.

Causes of Chin Hair in Women

First of All, Why? Well, I understand the frustration we all go through once we spot hair on our chin or anywhere on the face, except the brows!

Here are a few causes of sudden chin hair growth –

  • Hormonal imbalance or Hirsutism – If your chin hair is due to hormonal imbalance, then you must have hair growth in other areas of the body as well such as the face, cheeks, chest, tummy or back, etc. Acne may or may not accompany it to make the situation worse.

  • Polycystic ovary syndrome – Hair thinning on the head, irregular periods, acne, weight gain, and blood sugar fluctuations may occur but sometimes the only symptom is increased facial hair.

  • Cushing Syndrome – A hump between the shoulders, purple stretch marks, and a rounded face are the other symptoms along with facial hair if someone suffers from Cushing syndrome. In case of such symptoms, consult a doctor immediately.

  • Genetics – That means, your mother is also suffering from the same problem and she may have a hairy face too. Ask her, maybe you will find a better solution than this article!

Note – See a doctor if you see the excessive hair growth and other symptoms.

1. Hair Removal via Waxing

One of the most common ways to remove facial hair is face wax. This method will keep your chin hair-free for about 2 weeks or more (depending on your hair growth).

If you are opting for waxing then look for a wax that’s made especially for the face.

Don’t use body wax on your face as it can be very harmful, irritating, and harsh for your facial skin.

Pros & Cons of chin hair removal by waxing –

Pros – Hair doesn’t come back for weeks

Cons – Acne, Ingrown Hair, Painful, Loose skin with regular use, Not for Sensitive Skin

2. Facial Hair Remover Devices

There are many good devices in the market that remove your hair in just one go but they are also like razors.

If you have light baby hair then it may not grow for another week but the coarse hair will grow back in 2-3 days.

Epilators are not painless as they pluck the hair from its roots but the new hair growth takes time.

They work like waxing by removing hair from their roots. Hair comes back after about one or two weeks like waxing.

Facial hair removal creams are also easy to apply and the results may vary as per your hair growth. Although the skin remains hair-free for about two weeks or so.

Always use a reputable brand and make sure it is made for facial hair removal. Always do a patch test before using it on your face.

Pros & Cons of Using Depilatory Creams for Chin Hair

Pros – Painless Method, results last longer than a razor, no harsh hair regrowth

4. Threading

Threading for hair removal
Eyebrow, upper-lip and chin threading is quite common in India

One of the most popular chins and upper lip hair removal methods in India. It is mostly very affordable and the hair won’t come back for about 2 weeks or so just like epilation.

As hair is removed from the root, they take some time to grow.

Pros & Cons of Using Threading for Chin Hair Removal

Pros – no ingrown hair, results last longer, no chemicals

Another version of shaving, dermaplaning is more like a softer version of shaving with the new ustra-like device for women.

The peach-fuzz hair won’t grow back until after more than two weeks. Not perfect for hard, coarse hair though.

6. Natural Herbal Treatments

Papaya is best for treating hormonal hair growth such as hirsutism (chin hair)

Although these home remedies and herbal treatments take time to remove facial hair they also delay hair growth when used regularly.

There are many kinds of DIY homemade recipes to remove facial hair but I trust only two of them –

  • Besan Pack – Boil 3 tablespoons of water & 3 tablespoons of milk with 2 tsp of sugar, then cool down and add coconut oil, besan, and haldi.

Make a paste-like consistency and apply it to your face on hairy areas. When it starts drying then remove it by scrubbing in the upward direction.

  • Papaya Hair Removal Pack – Papaya has the enzyme papain in it that can slow down hair growth and it is also known to make the hair fall off easily.

You just need to make a paste of papaya and add a pinch of turmeric to it. Apply it on the whole face as it imparts a healthy glow as well. Keep it for 20 minutes and scrub it off.

Pros & Cons of Using Herbal Home Remedies for Chin Hair Removal

Pros – No side effects, easy ingredients, proven to decrease hair growth with time

Cons – No instant results, you may need a regular once-a-week application to get the results.

7. Hair Growth Stopper Creams

These creams also have papaya enzymes and other ingredients that work to slow down hair growth. In India, Wow hair vanish has great results.

You need to apply this cream after removing hair, if you are using waxing or plucking, then apply it for one week daily. If you have removed your chin hair by shaving or dermaplaning then apply it for 3-4 days.

Pros & Cons of Using Hair growth retardant creams to decrease Chin Hair

Cons – Works only till the time it is applied, not permanent effect

Recommended Cream – Buy Wow Hair Vanish Sensitive for INR 369

Ways to Remove Chin Hair Permanently

1. Skin Clinic Laser Hair Removal

Don’t forget to pin it!

This is by far the best method of hair removal that is permanent and needs a few sittings to make the results last longer.

I personally found those big NDyag laser machines that are present in skin clinics to be the most effective ones.

The treatment is not at all pricey for facial or chin hair.

Just a total of 5 sittings, once a month or once in two months (whenever your hair grow back) is needed.

You can get a touch-up every 6 months or once every year after that.

It’s quite freeing actually!

2. IPL at Home Laser Hair Removal

Braun IPL Hair Removal Device

IPL hair removal can be a good option for those who cannot find a good laser clinic near them.

It’s quite a bit amount to pay in one go, as most IPL home lasers cost between 25k to 30k.

But after that, you can use that device at home and as per your convenience.

I have not used an IPL laser yet but I have heard and read roaring results.

I will recommend Braun IPL Laser, you will find cheaper ones too, but I won’t suggest those as they can be quite ineffective.

Device Recommended – Buy Braun IPL Laser for INR 29,749

3. Diet Monitoring for hormonal imbalance

Vegetable and Fruit Salad for Day 3 of 7 days GM diet Plan

This one is mandatory as if you have seen a sudden hair growth in your chin area or in the general face area, then your androgen levels are fluctuating.

You need to decrease those male hormones (increased testosterone) to decrease hair growth.

Eating a clean diet that is more plant-based, less dairy (I know even I can’t give up my daily creamy coffee), and more water.

Other than that, adding estrogen-booster fennel seeds and flaxseeds is a game-changer for your hormones.

Also, adding licorice root to your diet when your periods are halfway near has been proven in research to reduce testosterone levels.

Just pop one in your mouth, it tastes good and when the root loses its flavor, chuck it out.

It’s that easy to reduce your chin hair and all facial hair!

Psst – It takes time.

4. Hormone Balancing Tea

How to Make Hormone imbalance herbal tea infographic recipe

This one is a really good addition to your diet, take it once a week at least to grab the amazing effects.

Just boil 1.5 cups of water with 1 tsp fennel seeds, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp coriander powder, and a pinch of cinnamon.

When the water remains just 1 cup, strain it and add some honey and drink it.

It tastes way better than green tea and has amazing hormone-balancing effects. More details about this hormone-balancing tea for women.

Do’s & Don’ts of Removing Chin Hair

  • Don’t Tweeze or pluck them! Please don’t! You will get bigger, darker, hard, and coarse hair like a male beard.

If the damage is already done, then there is good news for you, laser hair removal works best on hard hair!

  • Waxing regularly (once a week) can loosen up your chin skin if not taken care of.
  • Shaving Regularly can make the hair tips coarse and they will attain a beard-like appearance. ( I am sure you don’t want that)
  • Ingrown hair and acne can appear if you don’t take good care of your hair removal devices and use an astringent after hair removal from the chin, face, or any other area.

FAQs About Chin Hair Removal

Question 1. Will tweezing make chin hair more coarse, hard, and darker?

Answer. Studies have said that it doesn’t but from my personal experience, it’s hell Yes! Don’t tweeze your chin hair, otherwise, it will become coarse with time.

Question 2. What is the best treatment to get rid of chin hair permanently?

Answer. Hands down, the best method is LASER hair removal. And while the mini IPL laser is a good at-home option, the best is the huge ND-Yag laser machine at that cosmetic surgery clinic. If you can’t go there, the IPL home laser machine is your best bet.
